Who it's for

Families dealing with a less common dementia diagnosis -- vascular dementia, Lewy body, frontotemporal, and others -- who want a resource that isn't Alzheimer's-specific by name.

When to use this

When the diagnosis is a form of dementia other than Alzheimer's and you want information and support that speaks to that condition specifically, not just to Alzheimer's.

Why MemoryPath recommends this

Its scope explicitly covers over 200 dementia-related disorders, which makes it a useful complement to Alzheimer's-focused organizations for families navigating a different or less-discussed diagnosis.

Services provided

  • A public hotline (1-800-DEMENTIA) for questions about any form of dementia
  • Educational outreach covering vascular, Lewy body, frontotemporal, and other dementias
  • Caregiver-focused programs and resources
  • Support for research awareness and funding

Broader than Alzheimer's by design

Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia, but not the only one. DSA's mission explicitly spans vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia, and other related disorders -- a meaningful distinction for families whose diagnosis isn't Alzheimer's specifically.

The hotline

1-800-DEMENTIA (1-800-336-3684) is open to anyone with questions about any form of dementia, reflecting the organization's belief that access to accurate information helps people cope, regardless of which specific diagnosis they're facing.

A note on scope

DSA is an educational and advocacy nonprofit -- like other organizations in this directory, it complements medical care rather than replacing it.
